I am very happy to announce Photo Archive News has been appointed Media Partner for the UK Picture Editors Guild Awards 2010!

The UK Picture Editors’ Guild has appointed industry website PhotoArchiveNews.com (PAN) as it’s official media partner for the 2010 Awards to broaden the search for entries to this new major competition for all photographers contributing to the press.

The Picture Editors’ Guild Awards 2010 are backed by major sponsors and judged by panels of picture editors. The awards will assess the best images in a range of catergories with the winners to be announced at a prestigious London venue in September. The deadline is the end of July with entries easily submitted through the Guild’s dedicated Awards site.

Backing for the new competition has come from international brewers SABMiller, telecoms giant BT, the financial software and news data group Bloomberg, and Newscast, the visual communications agency.

The Awards have seven varied categories catering for all professional press photographers. An innovative eighth section — BT Citizen Photograph of the Year — is also open to the general public. An overall winner will be honoured as the SABMiller Photographer of the Year and receive £1,000 and a trophy. Individual category winners will each get £500 and a trophy.

Alan Sparrow, Guild Chairman, said “Photoarchivenews is a natural media partner for us, as one of the leading photo industry news portals. It reaches so many people in our industry, which makes it the right vehicle to generate entries. The awards have been designed to recognise the talent and expertise of all Britain’s professional press photographers no matter where they are based or who they work for, it really is open to all.”

For PAN, Will Carleton says “The Picture Editors’ Guild Awards 2010 are an ideal platform for professional press photographers to gain recognition for the work they do. I will be using PhotoArchiveNews as a vehicle to publicise this worthy contest to our audience, which include picture editors, art directors, picture researchers, photographers, photo agencies and the editorial photography industry worldwide.”
